Crime Prevention Programme FETAC Level 6

Certification: A FETAC Level 6 Certificate will be awarded to each successful participant on this programme.
Course Objective:
This programme is designed to provide the learner with an understanding of the principles and practical means of risk assessment together with an appreciation of the methods and means of crime prevention.Â
Candidate Requirement:
Learners must have at least three years experience working in the community or voluntary sector and have had training in conflict management or relevant work experience.
Course Content:
Statutory Requirements:
- To access the programme, learners should have successfully completed the Security Awareness Module or level equivalent. Applicants who do not have these formal educational qualifications may apply for access to the programme based on their relevant life and work experience, achievement and learning.
Programme Aims:
Learners who successfully complete this programme will:
- Develop a structure for carrying out risk assessment surveys
- Understand the factors that motivate crime
- Be familiar with methods of crime prevention
- Understand physical aspects of property protection
- Be familiar with methods of protection of property in transit
- Appreciate the benefits in the use of electronic aids for security
Course Content:
The programme is delivered in six units as follows:
- Unit 1 - Risk Assessment
- Unit 2 - Motivation for Crime
- Unit 3 - Methods of Crime Prevention
- Unit 4 - Physical Protection of Property
- Unit 5 - Protection of Property in Transit
- Unit 6 - Electronic Aids to Security
Assessment:
To achieve certification learners will complete the following assessments:
- Portfolio of Coursework (70% of the overall mark)
- Written Examination (30% overall marks)
