Certification: A FETAC Level 5 Certificate will be awarded to each successful participant on this programme.
Course Objective:
- Understand what the area of Infection Control means and its importance for every member of the Healthcare team.
- Have a better understanding of the basic principles of infection control and be able to apply standard precautions in relation to infection control
- Be aware of the importance of infection prevention and control in providing a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Be aware of healthcare-associated infection
- Understand ones ‘own role in the prevention of the spread of infection
Candidate Requirement:
- Candidate Requirement: Leaving Certificate or equivalent, or relevant live and work experience.
- Learners must also be capable of undertaking assessment work to Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard.
- International learners undertaking this course should have confidence in their English language, reading, writing and comprehension skills.

    - Unit 1 Basic Microbiology
    - Unit 2 Principles of Infection Control: Standard Precautions and Transmission-Based Precautions
    - Unit 3 Healthcare-Associated Infections
    - Unit 4 Health Management: Corporate and Individual Responsibility in relation to Infection Prevention and Control
