Course Objective:
The module is designed to give the learner essential knowledge and skills in developing standards, measuring performance, motivating and empowering staff and oneself.
Candidate Requirement:
Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.
Course Content:
Day 1 : Managing Performance
- Using team based techniques for managing performance using goals and objectives for individuals and teams
- Giving and receiving feedback in an assertive manner as per a supervisor/manager evaluating poor attendance; under performance or other performance concerns
Day 2 : Motivating, Developing and Empowering
- Assess supervisory skills using skills audit; design strategies for communicating staff suggestions and varying communication styles
- Developing strategies for life long learning for employees and management
- Create a process for staff empowerment and process for delegation
Day 3 : Building Effective Relationships
- Effect of different styles of leadership on relationships
- Understand various motivational theories and how to apply them
- Policies to maintain employee confidentiality
- Partnership approach to dealing with conflict etc
Day 4 : Legislation, Regulation and Policies
- Key concepts of employment legislation
- Impact of culture; national equality legislation and diversity in the workplace
